“Squaring the circle” – the task of designing our settlements in such a way that they can meet the challenges of the climate crisis and at the same time help to avoid exacerbating it seems like an unsolvable problem. However, we are convinced that this is possible in Neu-Anspach – with the many small steps that need to be taken together along the way. The squaring of the circle also refers to the formal approach of placing a square at the center of the new town center, centering and organizing the square space, and framing this center with a green circle or ring that creates a clear transition and prelude. The project title thus stands for both a procedural and a formal idea.

In future, Neu-Anspach should become more of a place to work and live than it has been in the past. The concept for the new center can therefore not be considered separately from an idea for the entire urban area. The ongoing redrafting of the RegFNP and the objectives formulated in the ISEK provide a very good starting point here. In the next step, the interpretation and design of areas and uses with regard to the climate and biodiversity crisis as well as the mobility and construction turnaround will be decisive. What will the new city center be the center of in the future? What will attractive, contemporary commercial areas look like in 2050? What will the surrounding (or interlinked) agricultural areas look like? What leisure uses will be in demand and where will they be located? What does inner densification mean? How will private gardens be used in the future?
