The projekt En Passage is not intended to compete with the new development at the train station in Bassersdorf’s town center, but to complement the existing urban fabric. With this proposal, Bassersdorf will have an appropriate, clear and unique starting point that will make a strong contribution to its identity as a growing, liveable community.
The high point in the west of the perimeter serves as a visual landmark from the center of Bassersdorf. This makes it clearly visible where the station is located and that densification is taking place there. The curve of the Bahnhofstrasse leads to the high point and to its square-like widening, which makes it pleasant and relaxed to get to and from Bassersdorf. At the same time, the row of buildings comes into view, indicating that densification is also beginning behind the tracks. At the same time, the first floor rises up towards the tracks, creating a clear visual connection to the track, bus and (and later streetcar) side of Bahnhofstrasse. The motif of elevation is reinforced by the greenery, which symbolizes the fact that the green spaces to the east and west of the perimeter are connected via the canopies.
The above-ground and underground access is kept very simple in line with the central idea and follows the considerations made so far for the perimeter. Bahnhofstrasse is designed as a relaxed pedestrian zone. The stops are arranged separately and intuitively parallel to the railroad infrastructure as “Track 0”. Access and egress is possible from all directions in all directions.
