“space – adapt, edit, transform // recognize, read, understand – stories from building in the existing fabric”.
Maria Conen studied architecture at the EPF Lausanne and the ETH Zurich. After graduating, she completed a MAS in History and Theory of Architecture at the gta of ETH Zurich. In 2011 she founded the office Conen Sigl Architekt:innen together with Raoul Sigl. The office won several prizes in competitions and the Swiss Art Award in Architecture. Working with existing structures is a focus and main interest in their work. They deal with a wide range of building tasks: Renovation Kunsthaus Glarus, remodeling and renovation of the Kirchgemeindehaus Wipkingen, remodeling and extension of the Wache Süd, extension of a bus depot with cooperative apartments in Winterthur. They worked on various exhibition designs such as for Manifesta 11. Maria taught as a visiting professor at TU Munich, TU Dresden, EPF Lausanne and is a professor at ETH Zurich since 2022.
